The prompts I had for this month were:
Transformation and Rune Stone
Here’s what I submitted!
Rubble Mother of the Stone Tribe was performing her yearly ritual under the glow of the full moon. “Gk! Gk! Guuurkk!” chanted The Mother, as she assembled piles of rocks into 3 rough piles.
She grumbled and hummed and called out to the Mountain Gods, and the piles began to shudder. In moments, the piles had formed themselves into 3 brand new creatures of the Stone Tribe, as was the way the tribe grew over the centuries. With vigour she spoke the final chant of the ritual, and transformed the rocks into living creatures.
As Rubber Mother admired her work, she noticed a jagged scar on the third creature. Upon closer inspection the Rubble Mother concluded that a Rune Stone must have found its way into the rock pile and scarred the creature’s soul. What effect this would have on the creature, she did not know.
The sun began to rise, and each of the new creatures opened their eyes, seeing the world for the first time. The Stone Tribe rushed out of their caves to greet the new arrivals and praise the Rubble Mother for a successful summoning.
All was joy and happiness as the creatures spoke their first words, smiles on their faces. All apart from the rune creature…
It squinted at the sun peaking above the horizon, and began to cry. The Tribe huddled around, unsure of how to react.
In fact, there was nothing the Tribe could do to stop what happened next: the rune scar cracked wider, and creature began to split into pieces. Its fingers and toes crumbled away, and the creature cried until it didn’t have eyes from which tears could fall.
All that was left was dust and the rune stone.
Rubble Mother walked over, kneeled, and cradled the rune.
