I’ve been wondering for some time now whether I need to start producing a much more curated image in my art or whether to keep on experimenting.
My problem is that I like to try new things to fuel my creativity, but if I’m promoting myself as a ‘brand’ then should I just focus on one thing? Instagram tells me yes: I should post the same content and use the same hashtags every time to keep a consistent message. That way it knows who to promote me to.
My problem is I like trying new things. I’ve done ceramics, I’ve been a model for a local photographer, I write poetry, I want to write and illustrate picture book…the list goes on!
I think I’ve come to the conclusion though that I’m the brand. I think that’s why people follow me. They meet me at art shows, they find me interesting. They like my work too of course but I want to use myself a bit more in the pictures I post on socials.
Anyway, all that said: I signed up to a micro fiction monthly writing contest! The algorithm worked it’s ‘magic’ and I found this new competition https://www.whimsyfiction.com/ it sounded right up my street.
I’m not expecting to be any good! I enjoy writing though, and this being micro-fiction suits me as a novice writer, if I can even call myself a writer! (hint: I’m not)
I’ll post my writings here too anyway, just in case anyone is interested, and also for myself to look back on and think ‘yeah I did that’. I do so many little things like this and 99% of them never amount to anything other than my own satisfaction and growth.
