Happiness comes from literature and the visual arts. Ruth's earliest memories are of disappearing into big books of fairy tales and nursery rhymes, with witches and goblins, trolls and brownies, fairy toadstools and magical gardens, crackling log fires and cooking pots, betrayed girls and wolves, stormy seas, restless skies and endless roads. They are still here.
Beardsley and Rossetti, Morris and Burne-Jones, Haeckel and Mucha mingle with the Grimm Brothers and Anderson, Blyton and the Bronte sisters, Carter and Dickens. Nocturnal forests, damp castles, mossy woodland floors and trees in the clouds. Whitby and Camelot beckon, and the Lady's Tower still lays in the castle's shadow.
Each picture starts with a character. They are given a border. The background will evolve. Every character has a story. Most of them are very real.
